About our ClientOur client is a SaaS company that has disrupted the youth sports market with its cutting-edge, tech-enabled platform that delivers a personalized experience for athletes, their families and coaches. Our Client Need'sIn Q3 2022, our client was acquired by one of the largest club and events operating company in the U.S. With an aligned mission, the acquisition meant that our client’s tech platforms needed to be scaled on a national level, ready for a 3 million user base. The need to ramp up its platform resulted in the client looking to triple the size of their software developer team by end of 2023. Our client was impressed with the expertise demonstrated by Michael Page Technology’s specialist recruitment team and in November 2022, we began our partnership. Our SolutionUpon understanding our client’s growth ambition, we closely partnered with the VP of HR to work out scope; we offered our consultation on the type and number of roles required and the pay package. We also helped to craft the development team structure. We worked out that the client needed to hire 2 new developers for their mobile app team and 8 new developers for their web team. We began market mapping talent within a 30-mile radius of the client’s head office based in a Chicago suburb. The client requires employees to work from the office at least once a week – this policy created a hurdle as most top developers wanted to work remotely. However, with market shifts and big tech layoffs in Q4 2022, candidates became willing to work in a hybrid set up. These shifts also meant a wider pool of quality developers were in the job market, so we engaged with them via our job ads and proactive searches on LinkedIn. We shortlisted talent based on their experience with C# and .Net programming languages, and determined culture fit by assessing their passion, their affiliation with sports, and their ability to fit within a "family" style working environment. Throughout the process, we noticed some technically adept candidates, who were also earmarked to be a good culture fit, had underperformed in the client’s technical assessment test. We recommended introducing a pre-assessment technical test to streamline the process due to the volume of top candidates. The VP of HR agreed, and the extra early-stage assessment was included, which eventually resulted in the successful placements. TestimonialOur business started working with Michael Page last fall after we struggled to land experienced mobile and web developers who would be a good fit for our fast-paced, sports-oriented culture. Through our collaboration, we have now hired several web and mobile developers to build out our team, with more to come. Mitch and Katrina helped us to identify gaps of knowledge and leadership in our team and have been incredibly accessible, communicative, and informed and knowledgeable about the current tech landscape. It continues to be a pleasure to work with them HR CoordinatorFind Your Local OfficeGet in touch with your local Michael Page office to speak to a specialist recruiter for your function, sector and region.
