Great interviewers know exactly how to get the right information from a candidate. In a short discussion, the right hiring manager will find out if this person has the right skills, experience, and attitude to be a part of their organization.

But an interview goes both ways. An intelligent candidate will also have some questions about the position, business, and team to help inform their own decision.   • What is your favorite thing about working here?
  • What are the next steps in the interview process?
  • What are the company’s values? How do you expect employees to reflect those values?
  • How does this role further the company’s mission or goals?
  • How is success measured? How is the review structure?
  • What does the development path look like for someone in this position?
  • Who would I be working with day to day?
  • What do you expect would be the most challenging part of this job for me?
  • What is one problem the team is facing that I may be asked to solve?
  • Are there any skills gaps on the team?
  • What sort of budget does someone in this position typically work with?
  • What does the training program look like?
  • Are there opportunities for me to go to conferences or take classes in order to develop my skills?
  • Why did the last person in this position move on?
  • What does the turnover rate look like here?
  • Where did you work before you came to this company?
  • What are this team’s current goals? How are they working toward them?
  • Will I have direct reports? What can you tell me about them?
  • Could you describe the company culture? Are there any office traditions?
  • Is work here typically collaborative or independent?
  • Where do you see the company in five years?
  • Is there anything in my background or experience that makes you doubt that I’d be successful in this role?
  • If you were going through the hiring process all over again, what would you ask your interviewer/hiring manager?
